Anaphylaxis Management

An interactive and exciting session on Anaphylaxis for the whole school. The workshop consists of engaging group activities that enhance the learning experience.

The newest research on Anaphylaxis and use of an auto-injector is explained.

This session is an exciting way to train all staff and can be delivered alongside asthma awareness or any other accredited or bespoke training that FAB offers.

The learning outcomes are:
Identify & describe anaphylaxis including exercise induced anaphylaxis
Learn & understand potential triggers
Identify signs & symptoms of severe allergic reactions
Explain treatment and the legal position on the use of adrenaline
Identify, prepare and use all types of auto-injectors
Explore recent case studies of fatalities within schools
CPR and AED

The course can be enhanced and lead to the qualification called Immediate Management of Anaphylaxis, or a certificate of attendance can be issued to contribute to CPD.

Epilepsy Training

Epilepsy awareness training is a 2-hour bespoke workshop that gives an overview of seizures and epilepsy. The session will support all staff who work with pupils who have epilepsy or seizures. It will also aid staff in identifying absence seizures. The information is delivered with the academic environment in mind

Topics covered are:
What is epilepsy and different syndromes
Signs and symptoms of seizures
What to do when a seizure occurs
Epilepsy in a wider context – impact on individual, school and their family and carers
The social, emotional and practical implications of living with epilepsy
Maintaining epilepsy with dignity and respect
CPR and AED

The session will cover the administration of medication however it will not lead to a formal qualification in the delivery of anti-epileptic drugs.

First Aid Workshop for Staff

A 2-hour workshop for staff which is focused upon life threatening conditions. No tricky terminology is used and only the relevant underpinning information is learnt. This session is a great addition to your current first aid provision.
This workshop is a valuable addition to any staff members continuous personal development.

The topics covered are:
Assessing a casualty and scene
CPR and AED
Choking procedure for an infant, junior and adult
Anaphylaxis and use of an auto-injector
Wounds and Bleeding
Fractures and bandaging

This concise workshop can be delivered to all staff and can align with other FAB offerings for a staff training day. It will ensure that qualified first-aiders feel supported in a medical emergency. Certificates of attendance for CPD can be issued upon request.

Defibrillator Familiarisation

There are more and more defibrillators available in public places, such as train stations, shopping centres, airports, leisure centres and schools. This 90-minute interactive and practical workshop will ensure that all staff have the knowledge, skills and confidence to use this life saving piece of equipment. No prior knowledge of first aid is required.

The learning outcomes are:
Learn responsibilities in a medical emergency
To be familiar with AED functions & batteries
Understand the paediatric facility
Practise the defibrillation process in conjunction with CPR
Be aware of safety precaution

The workshop places the AED in the chain of survival and uses the standard mannikins to practise with the device. If your establishment has an AED in situ, then the functions of that brand will be discussed and learnt.
